Inspiration

No matter how young or old you are, you can make a difference to another personís life.

There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship. — Thomas Aquinas

The church exists primarily for two closely correlated purposes: to worship God and to work for his kingdom in the world ... The church also exists for a third purpose, which serves the other two: to encourage one another, to build one another up in faith, to pray with and for one another, to learn from one another and teach one another, and to set one another examples to follow, challenges to take up, and urgent tasks to perform. This is all part of what is known loosely as fellowship. – N.T. Wright

Friendship Group

IN SEPTEMBER 2002, Sophie Tynski approached Father Dan Hinsperger about having a seniors' group as a social activity, he simply told her to go and do it. The result is a group of senior ladies, retired and semi-retired, who meet every Wednesday in the Hinsperger Centre.

The friendship group meets most Wednesdays from September to June. We gather for two hours (1-3) to work on various projects to support local, parish or overseas needs. We work together using their individual and collective talents in a social setting; all the time cultivating friendships, having fun, chatting, laughing, and enjoying learning from one another.

Annual pilgrimmage to Casino Niagara

Each week a members take turns at providing treats for our snack time, and we celebrate birthdays with a small gift. We have two lunch outings a year—in June and December—and enjoy our annual trip to Casino Niagara.

Knitted Blanket

Our projects include knitted goods, which we donate to various agencies in the fall an winter. We create knitted squares, which we put together as blankets for a cancer centre. Currently we are working on knitted 'knockers' (a knitted prosthesis,) for breast cancer survivors. And once in a while, we take on the project of making a quilt.

And then there is our annual fall knitted goods sale. Money raised from this event is donated to the church, and other worthy causes.
